FB sends friend request over data protectionFacebook, Google, Microsoft & Twitter have said they'll work on a joint initiative called Data Transfer Project. 'Change in anti-graft law to prevent harassment'The Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2018, which seeks to punish bribe givers for the first time with imprisonment of up to a maximum of seven years, was passed by Parliament this week. FB sends friend request over data protection Facing an intense public scrutiny over data leaks amid privacy concerns, Facebook has now called for the entire tech industry to come and protect people's data.According to David Baser, Director of Product Management at Facebook, nearly every day, news comes out from a different company about personal data that got into the wrong hands."Even if we're all taking steps to shore up our privacy protections, we won't find the answers in a silo. Companies are connected and our technology ecosystem can't be reversed."So we need to work together on standards and best practices to make data portability a reality while also prioritizing people's privacy and security," Baser said in a blog post late on Thursday.Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Twitter last week announced that they will join the open source initiative called Data Transfer Project (DTP).In the early stages at the moment, the Data Transfer Project will help users of one service to use their data to sign up for another service with encryption.According to Facebook, some of the world's most popular apps have been built on its platform and the flow of information has the potential for abuse."Bad actors can gather information from people and use it in ways that they aren't aware of and didn't agree too, like selling personal data to marketers."Facebook has clear policies against this, but as we saw with the Cambridge Analytica situation, bad actors are more than willing to ignore these policies in pursuit of their own objectives," Baser said. Some argue that the best response to Cambridge Analytica would be to lock Facebook down completely so apps can't get access to this kind of information but according to Facebook, limiting people's ability to share information would erase the conveniences they enjoy."We need to find the right balance, giving people control over data sharing and preventing abuse without hampering people's experiences or hindering innovation," said Baser.Facing global backlash over data scandals, Facebook stock nosedived 20 per cent -- wiping over $120 billion off the company's market value in a single day -- after its revenue and user growth in the second quarter of 2018 fell short of investor expectations. The social media giant reported 2.23 billion monthly active users -- an increase of 11 per cent (year-over-year) which was its slowest growth in more than two years. na/mag/sed ICICI Bank reports Q1 loss at Rs 120 crore ICICI Bank on Friday posted a net loss of Rs 119.55 crore for the quarter ended June against profit of Rs 2,049 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.Provisions of the private sector lender jumped 128.86 per cent YoY to Rs 5971 crore for the quarter under review. Asset quality of the lender improved with percentage of gross non-performing assets (NPA) came in at 8.81 per cent in Q1FY19 over 8.84 per cent in the sequential quarter ended March 2018. Percent of net NPA eased to 4.19 per cent from 4.77 per cent during the same period. Net interest income (NII) of the bank jumped 9.16 per cent YoY to Rs 6,102 crore in Q1FY19 against Rs 5,590 crore in the same period last year.Mark-to-market losses on the AFS and HFT portfolio aggregated Rs 219 crore in Q1FY19. âWhile RBI had allowed the banks to spread such provisioning for such mark-to-market losses over up to four quarters, the Bank provided for such losses in Q1-2019 itself,â ICICI Bank said in a release. IPPB looking at two way linkages for customer acquisition India Post Payments Bank-IPPB- which is ready for a commercial launch is looking at two way linkages- as a customer acquisition strategy. It will allow excess deposits above the regulatory threshold of Rs one lakh by facilitating the transfer of excess amounts to the India Post Savings Bank accounts and also allow India Post savings bank account holders to link their accounts with IBBP.`We are looking at two way linkages. We are also helping IPPB customers open an India Post account so that he can deposit excess funds over Rs one lakh in the post office savings accountâ said Suresh Sethi, MD and CEO of the bank. âWe will be allowing the existing India post savings bank account holder- who is now outside the formal banking purview- to link his account with the IBBP, which will allow them to access to a bouquet banking and payment services across the country.â The bank has already obtained the necessary regulatory approvals for the same, according to Sethi. These accounts will however not be a part of IBBP balance sheet. As a payments bank RBI allows IPPB to operate out of either a branch offices or access points which are essentially access points. But IPPB will be operating through access point. âWe are going to set up branch offices located post office premises more as controlling offices maned by IPPB staff who will be governing and supervisionâ Sethi said IPPB will have branches at 650 locations across the country, providing services at 3250 access points at the post office level and 11000 people providing door step services. âTwo critical approvals- IT readiness approval and branch expansion approval- are already clearedâ, Sethi said. But IPPB has still not announced a definite date for commercial launch. It is expected that prime minister Narendra Modi is expected to announce the commercial launch. âAll 650 branches of IPPB are expected to be launched by April, 2018â minister of State for communication Manoj Sinha had said in a written reply to Lok Sabha in January this year. IPPB has launched two pilot branches at Raipur (Chhattisgarh) and Ranchi (Jharkhand) in January 2017, according to the communication ministerâs written reply. IPPB is incorporated on 17.08.2016 under Companies Act, 2013 as a public limited company with 100% government of India equity under department of Posts in August 2016. RBI granted licence to carry on Payments Bank activities on January 2017. en-gb 2018-07-27T18:27:27+05:30 - Facebook, Google, Microsoft & Twitter have said they'll work on a joint initiative called Data Transfer Project.
