Winner in Punjab may form govt at Centre in PakUnlike the 2013 polls when PML-N got an overwhelming majority in Punjab, this time around it will be a close fight between PML-N and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf () McDonald's has a fix for India's oil problem MUMBAI: In a unique green initiative, McDonald's on Monday said it has started recycling several tonnes of used cooking oil from its restaurants into biodiesel fuel to power the company's fleet of refrigerated delivery trucks.The pilot project initiated last year now covers the 85 McDonald's outlets in Mumbai and will soon be extended to all the 275-plus branches in west and south regions of India, said Hardcastle Restaurants Pvt Ltd (HRPL) Director Vikram Ogale.Accordingly, HRPL now converts over 35 tonnes (35,000 litres) of used cooking oil every month into biodiesel for its 25-strong fleet of refrigerated delivery trucks, resulting in savings of more than 420,000 litres of crude oil annually, he said.Ogale said biodiesel made from used cooking oil is cleaner, with 75 per cent lower carbon emissions than diesel over its entire lifecycle, making it an eco-friendly fuel that helps cub global warming.In fact, even the refrigeration equipment aboard the trucks is now powered by the biodiesel, he added.Explaining the process, Ogale said the oil used for frying French fries and other foods is collected from the restaurants and taken to the converting facility in tankers, converted into biodiesel and returned for use in the supply logistics of the McDonald's group in the city.Westlife Development Ltd Vice Chairman Amit Jatia said that over the next four years, the HRPL plans to expand its restaurants to around 450-500."This means about 15 lakh litres of used oil to make bio-diesel for running the trucks fleet, thereby reducing over 4000 MT of carbon emissions, equal to planning about 200,000 trees," Jatia pointed out.Biodiesel Association of India (BAI( President Sandeep Chaturvedi said HRPL is the country's first restaurant chain to implement the sustainable biodiesel by recycling its used cooking oil."The BAI encourages all food companies to learn from this initiative and apply it in their own business model," Jatia urged.In a statement, the HRPL said it has presented its biodiesel initiative to the FSSAI, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Petroleum, State Biofuel Development Boards in various states, Oil PSUs, food companies, CII, AIFPA and the NASVI, among others, in a bid to popularise it. Bajaj Auto rejigs top structure; elevates Rakesh Sharma as CCO Bajaj Auto has elevated Rakesh Sharma as its first Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) as part of an organisational rejig with heads of the company's different business units reporting to him.In a letter to employees, Bajaj Auto Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj said the post of CCO was created to complement the offices of the ED (Executive Director- Pradeep Shrivastava) and CTO (Chief Technology Officer -Abraham Joseph).The step has been taken to bring together "all our business units in the pursuit of four key issues," he said in the letter dated July 20, 2018.These issues are product harmonisation leading to 'one world, one product'; marketing synergies creating 'one brand, one position'; customer focus resulting in 'one company, one quality'; and corporate alignment facilitating 'one stakeholder, one message', the letter said.Announcing the appointment of Sharma , who was earlier COO, President International Business, Bajaj said, "this re-organisation will permit ED to accord greater focus to our internal operations while equally enabling me to take a couple of steps back from them in order that I may address some other matters that will merit my attention into the future."Under the new structure, Eric Vas will continue to lead the Motorcycle Business Unit (MBU), reporting to the CCO.Likewise, Ramesh Maheshwari will continue to lead the Intra-city Business Unit (IBU) and Subash Rao, the Auto Finance Business of Bajaj Finance (BFL-AF), with both reporting to Sharma, who assumes office with immediate effect.KS Grihapathy will now lead the Export Business Unit (EBU), reporting to the CCO, Bajaj said.He further said Amit Nandi, while reporting to the CCO, will continue to lead the Probiking Business Unit (PBU) and will, in addition to managing India for the KTM and Husqvarna brands, will also be responsible for all overseas KTM and Husqvarna markets that have been assigned to Bajaj Auto.The newly conceived Urbanite Business Unit (UBU) will be led by Sumeet Narang, who will report to the CCO.He will be responsible for spearheading Bajaj Auto's foray into "the promising world of urban mobility," Bajaj said."In the interest of continuity, Sumeet will also be guided through 2018-19 by Amit who has so far been overseeing this endeavour," he added. Data breach incidents in India higher than global average New Delhi, Jul 23 () Data breach incidents in India have been higher compared to the global average, according to a survey conducted by defence grade technology maker Thales. "Around 52 per cent of Indian respondents reported a data breach last year, way above the global average of around 36 per cent. A full three quarters (75 per cent) of respondents in India reported data breach at some time in the past, compared with just 67 per cent globally," James Cook, sales director South Asia, Thales eSecurity told while sharing details of Thales Data Threat Report 2018. Thales, a Rafale aircraft vendor, globally surveyed over 1,200 senior IT security managers, including 100 in India between October-November 2017. Indian companies with revenue in the range of USD 100 million to 1 billion were covered in the study. "This year's India Data Threat Report 2018 emphasizes the need for change in security strategies to prevent the continuous increase in data breaches and also highlights privacy and data protection practices," Emmanuel de Roquefeuil, vice-president and country director, Thales in India said. Cook said that security breach is higher in India because they have been spending their budget either at wrong places or were more focussed only at the end points. According to the study, 81 per cent respondents lay emphasis on endpoint or mobile defences - which is ranked at the top in terms of spending plans, while data-at-rest stood at the bottom with 54 per cent. Data-at-rest are those information saved in archives, hard drives, thumb drives etc which many not be put to use frequently. Cook said that Aadhaar is driving security spent in India and 93 per cent of organisations surveyed in the country are planning to increase their budget on IT security -- which is the highest in the world. According to the report, strict privacy guidelines concerning Aadhaar, a 12-digit unique number, are driving far more Indian organisations to plan IT security spending increases than any other geographic or vertical market sector. The study found that interest in data sovereignty continues to heat up as new data privacy regulations take effect. Around 85 per cent of Indian respondents said they are affected by data privacy requirements compared to 87 per cent globally. "In India, the top choice for satisfying data privacy laws is encryption at 30 per cent compared to 42 per cent globally, where it is also the top choice, followed by tokenisation at 25 per cent versus 20 per cent globally," the study said. The study found that Indian companies are adopting advance technologies like big data, internet-of-things, mobile payments, blockchain at large levels. All companies surveyed in India were using cloud technology, with 92 per cent of respondents sharing sensitive data on cloud system. "We're now at the point where we have to admit that data breaches are the new reality with over half of organizations in India suffering a breach in the last year. In this increasingly data-driven world it is therefore hugely important that organizations take steps to protect that data wherever it is created, shared or stored," Cook said. - tdBlocksArray.push(block_td_uid_54_5b55e777126a6);
