  849. Next on Swiggy's list: Grocery & medicinesMUMBAI: After capturing a lion’s share of India’s online food-delivery market, Swiggy is all set to widen its delivery diversification strategy. The firm which has been looking to start deliveries for other categories such as medicines and grocery is all set to capture a larger share of the delivery pie by extending the service across the entire hyperlocal delivery market, according to two people familiar with the unfolding of this new business line.ET had first reported in its edition dated April 26, 2018 that the Bengaluru-based food-delivery firm was looking to diversify its delivery operations beyond food into other categories.“Swiggy is launching a concierge-like service and will enable buying and delivery of products from any store in the city including pharmacies, electronics, groceries and even flower and gift shops,” said one of the persons cited above. “It will also feature a customer-to-customer pick-up and drop service,” he added.Currently such a service is offered by Bengaluru-based Dunzo which is backed by Google and Quikr as part of its Quikr Easy platform pitting Swiggy directly with the former. The pilot for Swiggy’s diversified utility delivery play is likely to be rolled out by October-November across NCR, Bengaluru and Mumbai and will help with further optimisation of its 55,000- member strong fleet. The move is expected to add significant muscle to Swiggy’s delivery volume, which is over 14 million orders per month across food delivery alone and also aid its topline strongly. “Swiggy is expecting to grow this business vertical significantly to almost 15-20% of their revenues over the next 2 years,” said the person cited above.Swiggy declined to comment on details of the new initiatives and its scale. However, a spokesperson for the firm said, “At Swiggy, enabling convenience for our consumers is at the core of how we operate. We’re constantly experimenting with ways in which we can do that better while providing them with a delightful experience.”Swiggy recently raised $210 million in a round led by DST Global, Naspers, Meituan-Dianping and Coatue Management that valued the firm at $1.3 billion.Swiggy’s plans to diversify its delivery offering and build a unified delivery platform comes on the back of increased Chinese investor play in India, including Meituan-Dianping, Didi Chuxing and Alibaba (through its payment affiliate Ant Financial), which have backed Swiggy, Ola and Zomato, respectively. These investors have been increasingly focussed on pushing up volumes as they look to recreate China’s ondemand delivery success story in India.Swiggy’s strategy is reflective of its investor Meituan-Dianping’s China business model, which offers deliveries and services across a host of categories, including groceries, beauty salon, payments and ride-hailing, even as food remains its highest-frequency delivery category by volume and value.Gurugram -based rival Zomato has also been increasingly looking to boost its delivery volume for its delivery platform through various subscription-based monetisation models including Zomato Treats and Piggy-Bank specifically targeted towards building customer stickiness for its delivery business.

  851. With India in focus, Harley Davidson to come out with 250-500 cc bikeThe iconic US superbike maker Harley Davidson is planning to come out with emerging market mid-size motorcycle in the 250 cc to 500 cc with India as a core part of its future growth strategy. The plan would pit Harley Davidson against home-grown cruiser motorcycle major Royal Enfield in terms of vehicle displacement, albeit the US bike maker may price it's vehicle at a higher end.Announcing new mid-term plan till 2027, coined “more roads to Harley Davidson”, the company in a statement said it is, "developing small-displacement (250cc to 500cc) motorcycle for Asia emerging markets through a planned strategic alliance with a manufacturer in Asia. This new product and broader distribution is intended to fuel Harley-Davidson’s customer access and growth in India, one of the largest, fastest growing markets in the world, and other Asia markets.”The details on the launch of this smaller displacement motorcycle or who would be its alliance partner in Asia or it is from India were not mentioned in an official press release. Matt Levatich, president and chief executive officer, Harley-Davidson, Inc said, “Alongside our existing loyal riders, we will lead the next revolution of two-wheeled freedom to inspire future riders who have yet to even think about the thrill of riding.”“We expect this plan will result in an engaged, expanded Harley-Davidson community with a more diverse rider base, along with industry-leading margins and cash flow,” said Levatich. This smaller displacement motorcycle is part of Harley Davidson's grand plans of making its brand of motorcycles more accessible through expansion into new products, broader access and stronger dealers. The highlights of the plan includes new touring and cruiser motorcycles, new middle weight modular platform 500 to 1250 cc segment, more accessible, small displacement bike including an all electric motorcycle Livewire which will hit the market in 2019.Harley-Davidson plans to offer its most comprehensive lineup of motorcycles, competing in many of the largest and fastest growing segments with a full portfolio of motorcycles across a broad spectrum of price points, power sources, displacements, riding styles and global markets, the company said in a statement.
  852. Tyre makers reinforce demand for import duty relaxation as rubber output slumpsKochi: Natural rubber production has hit six-year low of 1.26 lakh tonnes in the first quarter of 2018-19 as consumption reached a peak of 3.02 lakh tones.Production-consumption gap has widened to 58% in Q1 of current financial year, from 46% in the year-ago period, leading to growing concerns over raw material, the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (Atma) has stated.According to the latest figures released by Rubber Board of India, natural rubber (NR) production contracted by 12%, while consumption went up by 14%. The deficit stood at 1.76 lakh tonnes in the first three months of ongoing fiscal against 1.21 lakh tonnes a year ago.For second consecutive month in June, NR consumption breached the 1 lakh tonne mark. The production on the other hand has remained below 45,000 tonnes in each of the first three months, states the Rubber Board data.“Domestic natural rubber production could meet only 42% of the domestic demand in Q1 of current fiscal. Such scarcity and grossly inadequate availability of domestic NR is leading the tyre industry to a precarious position. The dependence on expensive imports will need to go up significantly if tyre manufacturing operations are to be sustained in the country”, said Rajiv Budhraja, director general Atma. The NR import is imperative to meet the huge demand supply gap. However custom duty on NR import is a steep 25%, higher than other NR importing countries, despite acute domestic crunch. .Moreover, the export obligation period for tyre export set as a pre-condition for NR import has been reduced to 6 months from 18 months, making it tough for the industry. “We will strongly reiterate our demand for import of NR on a tariff rate quota (TRQ) basis at nil rate of duty to the extent of gap between domestic production and consumption, “added Budhraja.
  853. Tech view: Nifty forms small bullish candle; but red flags have gone upNEW DELHI: The Nifty50 on Monday closed above the 11,300 level for the first time ever. The index formed a small bullish candle on the daily chart that resembled a 'Hanging Man'. While the index formed higher highs and higher lows for the seventh consecutive session, in the process, it entered the overbought zone as suggested by the 14-day relative strength index. Analysts had mixed views by the end of the day; some said Nifty is heading towards the 11,500 in a week’s time, whole others said the time is ripe to take some profit off the table.A Hanging Man is usually seen around short-term turning points. “A confirmation will occur once the Niftyr50 slips below 11,261. A weak daily pattern was accompanied by overbought levels on the oscillator charts, suggesting some sort of pullback. Besides, the index traded at much higher levels than its short-term averages prices, suggesting that the ongoing rally is due for a phase of correction and consolidation,” said Mazhar Mohammad of Chartviewindia.in. For the day, the index rose 41.20 points, or 0.37 per cent, to 11,319. Every small declines got bought into, said Chandan Taparia of Motilal Oswal Securities. The index has to hold above 11,250, Taparia said, to extend its move towards 11,350-11,400 zone. Downside supports are seen in the 11,200-11,171 range, he said.Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities is upbeat on the market. He said there is further upside in store. “Smaller intraday dips or consolidations could be used as a buying opportunity in the short term. Nifty’s upside target will be the 11,450-500 zone in next one week,” Shetti said.Mohammad, though, advised traders to book profit in the next session and remain on the sidelines till the market corrects and consolidates for a couple of sessions.
