Soon, pay with your phone on IGI metro NEW DELHI: Very soon, commuters using Delhi Metroâs Airport Express Line would be able to use their smartphones instead of smart cards or tokens to travel.Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is introducing a new system at the Airport Express Line, which would help commuters pay for their journey through QR codes generated on their smartphones, instead of using smart cards or queuing up to buy a token.DMRC is going to modify automatic fare collection (AFC) gates at all the stations of Airport Express Line to make them QR code enabled. âTo provide cashless services to its commuters, DMRC will integrate QR code entry through AFC gates on Airport Express Line. At present, smart cards and tokens are used for travelling in this line,â a DMRC official said. They have carried out trials for system integration and AFC gates installed at Airport Express Line will also accept QR codes for travelling apart from smart cards and tokens.DMRC said that passengers would be able to use the Bharat QR code for making payments while using this line. This code was launched by the Union government to promote cashless transactions and it works with all major banks in India. It is a form of a bar code that uses the bankâs information (merchant name and account number) required for the payment, he said.Passengers would first need to download the Bharat QR code application on their mobiles to pay for the journey. They can then link their bank account with the app and generate a QR code. The AFC gates at the Airport Express Line would have scanners that would be able to read the QR code generated on the passengerâs phone.DMRC has already started a pilot project known as âDream Gatesâ at two entry points at Lal Qila metro station and two exit points at Jama Masjid metro station last year, through which the commuters can enter and then exit using QR codes of e-wallets on their mobile phones. - Mission Impossible Fallout box office collection Day 2: Tom Cruise film beats Bollywood counterparts
