Market Movers: Top cues for your day on D-Street A lowdown on top macro triggers that may move market on Tuesday. BUY/SELL/HOLD ideas from D-Street experts ET Now spoke to various experts and here's what they have to recommend for today's trade: What BJP should do to win back Uttar Pradesh in upcoming Lok Sabha polls BJP must make an all-in-one offer to UP voters to rise above caste and religion, but its supporters may not like it. Will IHH Healthcare's acquisition of Fortis cure it? IHH Healthcare Berhad, Asiaâs largest healthcare provider, was always the trump card. First, for Malvinder Singh. Then, for the institutional shareholders who took charge of his hospital chain after he ceased to be its promoter. In early 2017, exasperated at the pace of diligence by TPG and General Atlantic during their â3-month exclusivity period,â Singh wanted IHH to step in and be the strategic counterweight. Happy to oblige, the Malaysians were tantalisingly close to stitching it up but pulled the plug just days before signing on the dotted line, worried about the implications of the legal battle between Daiichi Sankyo and the Singh brothers â" Malvinder and Shivinder.Nine months later, they were back at the negotiating table this April, after efforts to bag Naresh Trehanâs Medanta came a cropper. By then, several hedge funds and FIIs who had taken large bets, wanted them to stir the pot again, unhappy with TPG-Manipal Health Enterprisesâ offer.The next three months were nothing short of a potboiler, unprecedented in any Indian corporate takeover â" founder promoters unseated; shareholder rebellion; the board replaced; allegations of fraud and fiscal mismanagement, rival bids and counter offers being accepted only to be rejected later. Finally, last Friday, IHH was shortlisted to take control of Fortis, its $1.1-billion offer trumping that of rival TPG-Manipal. For a company whose next lease of growth pivots on India and Greater China, Indiaâs second-largest platform is arguably a crown jewel.RIGHT DOSAGEâThe acquisition demonstrates our commitment to invest considerable resources to expand and consolidate our footprint in India,â said Datoâ Mohammed Azlan bin Hashim, non-executive chairman of IHH. First, the scale. It helps IHH bulk up its India presence amid a private healthcare boom, with a network of 34 hospitals and 4,685-bed capacity. More strategically, it complements IHHâs existing footprint here and marks its presence in the north, the largest market by population, where it didnât have any presence till date.India will vault to become the thirdlargest market in terms of revenues for IHH, with its share increasing from 6% to 24% of IHH revenues. After all, IHHâs core markets of Singapore and Malaysia have plateaued, rendering heft in new gateways critical. Not to mention Indiaâs abundant clinical talent and cost arbritrage. PNB aims to bring net bad loans below 6% by March: Sunil Mehta Punjab National Bank targets to recover â¹22,000 crore and raise another â¹8,000 crore selling non-core assets in the current fiscal to boost its capital, bankâs CEO Sunil Mehta told Sangita Mehta in an interview. Heâs confident the bankâs fortunes would improve after the Nirav Modi-scam last year led to a record fourth quarter loss of â¹13,417 crore. Edited excerpts:What is the status on recovery from Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi who have defrauded the bank? PNB has filed a recovery suit in DRT against Nirav Modi. In the US, we have initiated action to recover our money. The Nirav Modi Group has filed for insolvency seeking protection for their overseas subsidiary. There we have filed an application that we should be heard before any decision is taken and our case is admitted.There are concerns on whether PNB would be able to pay interest on perpetual bonds due next week?The bank is fully geared to make interest payments on those bonds. It is totally geared to bounce back. Despite all this turbulence, our business has grown on quarterly and yearly basis. In the current quarter, we have seen 9.8% growth in domestic credit and domestic deposits rose by 5%.How has your experience been on bad loansâ recovery?Last full year our recoveries were at â¹5,617 crore, but in the first quarter this year we could recover â¹8,000 crore. Our biggest asset is our nonperforming loans (NPL), which will prove as a goldmine for bouncing back because whatsoever recovery we make will help us in unlocking provisions and improve profitability. This fiscal year target for recovery is â¹22,000 crore and we are hopeful of achieving it in the second or third quarter. We are looking at upgradation of â¹4,500 crore as against â¹2,000 crore last year. We are working on a strategy to bring net bad loans below 6% by March.Any plans to raise equity this year?This year we are concentrating on raising equity around â¹8,000 crore through sale of non-core assets, internal accrual and recovery of bad loans. And we expect the government to contribute capital through a normal recapitalisation process.What are the measures that PNB has taken to improve systems and processes to prevent another Nirav Modi scam?The major initiative we have taken is on handling trade finance business. We have integrated SWIFT with core banking solution (CBS). We have created centralised back office for trade finance. So all our trade finance transactions are processed at branch level and then moves to a centralised back office and then routed to swift payment centre. So, there are three levels of checking. Similarly, to mitigate risk in credit process we have created four separate verticals - credit sourcing; credit processing and underwriting; credit monitoring; and resolution and recovery.How is this different from earlier practices?We have centralised loan processing centres. It will be different from our existing system where the entire loan sourcing, processing, underwriting and documentation was done by a few officers in the branch itself. Now it will be handled by different verticals. Sourcing will be with the branches, documentation and underwriting will be with centralised processing centres, and recovery and resolution will be with stressed-asset management verticals.What is status on rationalisation of branches and ATMs?We have rationalised around 600 ATMs. All of them have not been closed down. Some are moved to different location where they can be more profitable. Wherever our branch operations are not viable we will merger them with other branches. We have 300 loss making branches and we are working on it to bring them to profitability in the current year and those which donât meet commitment we may shut them down. en-gb 2018-07-17T08:39:05+05:30 en-gb 2018-07-17T08:57:15+05:30 - tdBlocksArray.push(block_td_uid_53_5b4d628108449);
