China's state-controlled news outlet Global Times says this would present an opportunity for Indian cinema."Hollywood movies are part of the services trade, and the impact of the current trade tension will go beyond goods to other areas," Bai Ming, a research fellow at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, told the Global Times. "Given the US-China trade friction and Chinese audience's aesthetic fatigue toward American films, the Indian film industry will have greater opportunities," Tian Guangqiang, assistant research fellow with the National Institute of International Strategy at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told Global Times. "Indian films should take advantage of the US-China trade tension to appeal to Chinese audiences and cash in."Beijing allows screening of 34 Hollywood films in China per year. The number becomes significant if growth in Chinese movie ticket sales is taken into account. The sales grew by 22.3 per cent last year totaling $8.6 billion, according to the Newsweek report. China's box office also passed North America's to become the world's biggest in the first quarter of 2018. The report says even films that perform poorly in the US have a chance of making up the difference in China. For example, half of the $433 million overall global box office earnings of the 2016 fantasy film 'Warcraft' were made in China. In the US, the film flopped, only raking in $47 million. This indicates how big an opportunity US-China trade war can offer to Indian film industry. From 2016 to 2018, India exported just eight movies to China while the US exported 156, including those co-produced with other countries, according to data by entertainment industry information provider EntGroup Inc.Indian films are a big draw in China due to cultural similarities. Aamir Khan's 'Dangal' raked in nearly 1.3 billion yuan ($196 million) at the Chinese box office in 2017, according to the Xinhua news agency. Another Indian movie, 'Secret Superstar', topped the Chinese box office in the week ending January 28. In the past three years, Indian films have made a total of 2.79 billion yuan in China, according to EntGroup data. "Given China's huge market potential and the box office success of previous Indian films, the Indian movie industry will pay more attention to the Chinese market, and will expand its presence through a variety of ways like co-productions," Tian told Global Times. Load capacity to be hiked for older heavy vehicles too NEW DELHI: The government will soon increase permissible load capacity for trucks and tractors already plying on roads. The 20-25% increase will be the same as the road transport and highways ministry has done for new heavy vehicles that are yet to be registered, after requests from stakeholders. On Monday night, the ministry had issued a statutory order. âWe have already issued an order increasing the axle load for heavy vehicles that will be registered from now on. For existing fleet, we would soon issue an advisory allowing them to carry the load as per the new increased limits,â said Nitin Gadkari, road transport and highways minister, on Tuesday.Gadkari felt sales of commercial vehicles were unlikely to be affected. âOverloading is rampant. As we have increased limit by 20-25%, we hope overloading will stop. Also, we will soon issue strict penalty if the vehicles are loaded beyond allowed capacity,â he stressed.âAutomakers have told me existing trucks have capacity to handle freight as per new norms,â said the minister, adding that highways were also of good quality and capable of carrying additional load. âIt will allow truck manufacturers to come up with better and efficient designs.â Gadkari also expects freight costs to drop substantially.According to the order, gross vehicle weight of a two-axle truck (two wheels on the front axle and four wheels on the rear) has been increased to 18.5 tonnes, from the existing 16.2 tonnes, including the vehicle weight, increasing load capacity by 20%. Similarly, gross vehicle weight for three-axle trucks has been increased to 28.5 tonnes, from 25 tonnes, and from 37 tonnes to 43.5 tonnes for five-axle trucks, expanding load capacity by 25%. Other categories of multi-axle trucks can also carry more now. For tractor trailers, load limit has been increased by 36%. 65030352 Higher load cap may put brakes on CVsâ growth MUMBAI: The booming commercial vehicles sector is expected to see a sharp deceleration in growth as new axle norms implemented on Monday will create additional load capacity and hit demand. It also appears to militate against moves to strictly enforce limits to combat dangerous overloading thatâs rampant in the transport business.Road transport minister Nitin Gadkari has boosted the volume capacity of existing fleets through the decision, thus meeting consumption--industrial or consumer--demand for the next three years. This could potentially mean a loss of Rs 9,000 crore for the commercial vehicle industry over the next three years and a loss of Rs 2,500 crore for the exchequer.Industry players say replacement demand, which accounts for at least 25-30% of monthly sales for vehicle makers, could dry up immediately.65030354 en-gb 2018-07-18T00:13:08+05:30 - Suspected dissident republican IED attack target former Sinn Fein leader in Belfast in Northern Ireland
