  97. Indians just can’t get enough of this dishWhen you think of ordering fast food, a pizza or a burger tend to be the obvious choices. A kebab, tikka or a roll might make the cut for Indian dishes. Biryani has always been the anti thesis of fast food. It’s associated with special occasions and memories of overnight cooking by khansamas using secret family recipes to achieve the perfect aroma and tender meat. It was also served with a generous sprinkling of family history and folklore. Over the last few of years though, as food delivery apps, quick-service restaurants and take-away outlets have begun to dominate, biryani has emerged as an unlikely champion of India’s fast food scene, unseating the pizzas and burgers that used to dominate standardized fast food kitchens. Food delivery apps say it’s among the most popular dish ordered and its demand far surpasses the western imports. Online delivery app Swiggy found that while pizza was the most searched item around the country in 2017, biryani was the most ordered. Uber Eats found biryani to be the dish that everyone wanted to start their New Year with. It was the most ordered dish on January 1. On the day of Wimbledon and FIFA World Cup finals, Zomato found biryani to be the star performer. Orders for biryani were twice those of pizza. And these trends are from across the country.

  99. Menstruation products: How a movement was created by women for womenIt matters. Period.” When 26-year-old firstgen entrepreneur Tanvi Johri came up with this tagline for her premium, 100% natural and biodegradable sanitary napkins, Carmesi, the inspiration came from within. For years, Johri had struggled with painful periods. Skin rashes were a recurring problem, caused by the plastic sanitary napkins that she used and what were commonly available. By the time she was 22, and nearly a decade or so into her menstruating life, she decided to take stock. “I had tried various products, soft and plastic, to manage my periods. But the discomfort was universal. Then, four years ago, while interning at a startup, I decided to research on organic pads.” In May 2017, Johri designed a sanitary pad made up of cornstarch and bamboo. In November 2017, she and friend Rikshav Bohra launched the product. “We first used our savings. Then we got seed funding from a group of angel investors, including Sunil Kalra and Arun Venkatachalam from the Murugappa Group.” It has been a thrill ride for Johri. “Women write to us with their user experiences. So many of them have shared stories of discomfort, rashes and allergies they have suffered due to conventional pads.” 65274362
