Dhoot subsequently sold his stake but firms controlled by him or associates maintained a relationship with NuPower till early 2013, when control was finally transferred to a trust controlled by Deepak Kochhar for a small sum. The lender and Chanda Kochhar have denied any wrongdoing. The complaint also alleges that the bank has given loans to certain entities and Kochhar has got concessional rates on the property she bought from them.“The probe will have to establish the link between the assets acquired and the loans that were given to the builders,” the second person said. “The audit committee also examined the allegations made by an employee in his whistleblower complaint on hiding of NPAs in the SME accounts. There is no materiality in the allegations. 762. In Pic: Vipin Khandelwal Founder, Unovest “Dividend is the opium of the mutual fund investor. For too long, it has been used by fund houses as a bait to lure investors.”But this bait now comes with a tax tag. With 10% tax on dividends introduced now, the proposition is no longer taxefficient. Investors who are still tempted by the consistent dividend payouts from these schemes should reconsider their decision. Also, dividends are paid out of the distributable surplus accumulated by funds over the years; there is no guarantee that they will be able to sustain the quantum of payout. If the market nosedives, these funds may not have enough surplus left and dividend payouts may get increasingly erratic. “Entering an equity oriented investment for the sole purpose of income generation is a bad idea,” insists Amol Joshi, Founder, PlanRupee Investment Services.MISTAKE # 6Turning too bullish on stocks The rally has filled investors with confidence. But overconfidence is a dangerous feeling in the stock market. Investors who are less confident tend to make fewer mistakes than those who are brash and carefree. If you have made good money in the stock market, it’s time to rebalance the portfolio and restore the initial asset allocation. Yet, a lot of investors tend to become their own worst enemies and turn to panic buying. Behavioural scientists say that human biology plays its own tricks here. When a trade goes right and you make money, the brain releases dopamine in the body, which makes the individual feel positive and more confident of doing well. Dopamine is also addictive and makes people feel positive, confident, and energetic. The bigger the anticipated rewards, the more dopamine is released by the brain, pushing the investor into a vicious cycle.Experts say asset allocation holds the key to wealth creation and should be followed like a religion. “The best way to protect your portfolio is by deciding on a percentage balance between equity and debt, and sticking to it by periodically shifting money away from the one that becomes high to the one that becomes low,” says Dhirendra Kumar, CEO of Value Research . A prudent investor will overcome emotional biases and rebalance his portfolio to reduce the risk. Also Read: When should investors sell their mutual fund holdings?
  763. sometime away, Jagannadham Thunuguntla, Senior Vice President and Head of Research, Centrum Wealth Management, tells ET Now.Edited excerpts: Are you a buyer in Yes Bank or would you prefer to wait and watch? RBI has spoken in a very unusual language. It is an open-ended statement that says Rana Kapoor to serve as Yes Bank MD & CEO till further notice. and it has created various view points in the markets. One view point is it may be a just matter of time before Rana Kapoor is given the clearance for three years. But another school of thought is had it been so easy, they would not have used that kind of language. Whatever it is, till the time the final stand will be taken by RBI, there will be ambiguity and there will be overhang on the stock. At this moment, markets will be in wait-and-watch mode. As we had witnessed in the case of ICICI Bank and Axis Bank, whenever any management related issue pops up, valuations take a beating and there will be significant time as well as price correction. For instance, if ICICI Bank is trading at 1.5 times price to book or Axis Bank at let us say 2.4 times price to book, and Yes Bank is well above three times. Every time I meet experts, they only tell viewers what to buy. Nobody comes out and say what to sell, where valuations are stretched, where one should be coming out and locking some gains. In this kind of overpriced market and segments like consumer staples, discretionary and durables, where should one be taking some chips off the table? One can always keep booking the profit but the challenge here is that the market has become so narrow that only 40-50 stocks are real performers and if you try to book the profits, the challenge will be to generate that eventual alpha. We have to run the ride along with the market for some more time. Probably a moment will come when we will be better off taking some money off the table. But we are sometime away from that stage. If the market is showing signs of stagnation or tiredness, then probably you can take off some money from this high valued segments. But that is sometime away.Give me a midcap IT investment idea where one can invest and make 15% in next one year. Hexaware can be one opportunity where the stock had taken a beating. It may give an opportunity to accumulate for those investors for 15% per annum a year. But I still feel easier way to play IT is probably the largecap with the rupee weakness and direct beneficiaries. The headwinds will be relatively lower. Infosys or TCS will be a better choice. But if somebody insists on midcaps, probably Hexaware can be a choice. The star stock for the week gone by was Piramal Enterprise. After their long 100-page presentation everyone on the Street is actually blown away. I met folks from Kotak Mutual Fund on Friday and somehow the Street is convinced that if real estate makes a comeback, a company like Piramal Estate would benefit disproportionately. What are your thoughts? Piramal Enterprises is a class act any level we look at. It is a high quality pedigree management and they have proven time and again that they are slightly ahead of the market in terms of getting the trends right and in terms of investment decision. As everybody knows Ajay Piramal thinks more like an investor than like a businessman.Being an investor, if you are slightly ahead of the curve and ahead of the investment cycle, you will get the pricing and timing right and he has proven that in many industries. I am sure post all the restructuring, whatever new entities get floated, I am sure there will be a lot of value unlocking. Also, interestingly, this is the same year in which the non-compete period also will end. Ajay Piramal went on record saying that they may be looking at some pharma acquisitions also. So, a lot is happening at the Piramal level. I expect good things to happen and already the share price is showing that. It is a perfect portfolio stock for every investor. It is not a trading stock. Hold it for a long time. I am sure the wealth creation can be in unimaginable proportions.
  764. INCENTIVES TO DRIVE AUTOMATION Sekhar had added that the company was originating deals worth millions of dollars from its innovation hub in Bengaluru and was focusing on innovation-led sales.IT companies are also looking at specifically incentivising sales people to drive automation, even if it cannibalises current revenue.“The entire sales team has been fully incentivised and coached so that wherever they see an opportunity for automation, they should lead with automation as the solution,” Tata Consultancy Services CEO Rajesh Gopinathan said last month. Accenture has similarly placed automation leads in its projects. Analysts said the nature of incentives has changed given the evolution of digital deals and the growth of automation.“The delivery units spend most of their time with the client--they would have a better understanding of how the client’s business is progressing and could leverage an innovation they are working on to drive an expanded contract,” said an analyst at a Mumbai-based brokerage. “We are hearing that companies are reworking their incentive programmes, especially with there being fewer large deals in the market.”It’s not just IT companies looking at incentivising their sales force with top-end cars. Business process management company WNS gives its top sales executives Porsches every year, Swaminathan R, chief people officer at the company, said in a post on social media site LinkedIn.

1451. MOSCOW – In a first such event, military personnel from India and Pakistan are participating in an anti-terrorism exercise organised by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Russia.
1452. The six-day SCO drills, which have brought the two countries together for the Exercise Peaceful Mission 2018, will continue till August 29 at Chebarkul town in Chelyabinsk Oblast in Russia.
1453. The exercise is aimed at enhancing cooperation between member states to deal with the growing threat of terrorism and extremism.
1454. Around 3,000 soldiers from India, Pakistan, China, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan are taking part in the exercise.
1455. The Pakistan contingent comprises 110 members, while the strength of the Chinese contingent is of 748 personnel.
1456. The 200-member strong Indian contingent has 167 Indian Army personnel including four women officers and 33 personnel from the Indian Air Force.
1457. The opening ceremony of the peace mission exercise was conducted at the Combined Arms Range at Chebarkul. It started with a speech by Central Military District Commander Col Gen Alexander Lapin, the Exercise Chief, who exhorted the participating troops to execute all tasks allotted to them in a professional manner.
1458. The meet was declared open with the hoisting of national flags of all member nations, accompanied by respective national anthems. Contingent commanders also addressed the gathering followed by an impressive march past.
1459. The SCO Peace Mission Exercise takes place every two years.
1460. The Peace Mission 2018 also created history when for the first time as four major military powers of the region – China, Russia, India and Pakistan – are participating in the same military drill.
1461. In previous editions, only Central Asian nations participated.
1462. Pakistan and India were given the status of full members of SOC in 2017.
1463. With India and Pakistan joining the exercise, SCO’s counter-terrorism mission has expanded to South Asia, a region in a grip of terrorism and extremism.

1752. MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has bought gold for the first time in nearly a decade, signalling that the metal could be in demand as a store of value when returns and capital values of fixed-income bonds are declining in a rising rate environment. The RBI added 8.46 metric tonnes of gold to its stock of holdings during the financial year 2017-18 that ended June 30, taking the level of gold reserves to 566.23 metric tonnes, according to its latest annual report. It last bought 200 metric tonnes from the IMF to boost its reserves in November 2009.Over the past nine years, the gold stock in RBI reserves was stable at 17.9 million troy ounce. But RBI has started adding to its stock since December 2017, data submitted to the IMF indicate.Stock of gold, as of June 30, amounted to 18.20 million troy ounce or equivalent to 566.23 metric tonnes, up from 17.9 million troy ounce in November, 2017.The RBI’s decision to buy gold is significant because unlike many other central banks such as the People’s Bank of China, RBI does not regularly trade in gold, although the RBI Act permits it to do so.Economists reckon that investing in gold is a prudent treasury move by the central bank at a time of rising yields. RBI has already sold close to $10 billion worth US treasury securities between April and June, data with the US treasury department suggest.“The addition of gold to RBI’s forex reserves is probably a diversification of assets for their deployment, keeping in mind both the build-up of reserves in 2017 as well as the evolving global risks, including market volatility and rising policy rates in the US,” said Saugata Bhattacharya, chief India economist at Axis Bank.Rising yields could trigger mark-tomarket losses for RBI’s bond portfolio. Of the $405 billion worth reserves with the central bank, $245 billion were held in the form of bonds and securities as of June 30, data submitted to the IMF show.Diversifying reserves to include gold is a prudent measure at such times. The Annual Report points out that RBI continued diversification of foreign currency assets with attention to risk management. The gold portfolio had also “been activated,” said Bhattacharya. The RBI did not say where it bought the gold from or the reasons for such transactions. But economists say that the central bank might also want to create a buffer to meet the redemption needs of Gold Bond Schemes through which it sold bonds worth more than ?4,000 crore. The RBI has to redeem the three- to eight-year bonds at the prevailing price of the metal and keep an extra stock of gold in its kitty to hedge against price risks.
1753. Mumbai: The probe into charges against Chanda Kochhar will cover all property dealings by the Kochhar family since she took over as CEO of ICICI Bank. The board has asked Justice BN Srikrishna, who is conducting the investigation, to look into all allegations against Kochhar, said two people familiar with the matter. It has asked Srikrishna to examine whether properties and assets acquired by the Kochhar family since she took over as CEO were purchased at concessional or lower than prevailing market prices. He will also look into possible banking relationships and the terms of loans or banking facilities enjoyed by builders or sellers of these assets with ICICI Bank.“That is correct. I am heading an investigation into several allegations made by a whistleblower against her,” Justice Srikrishna told ET. Kochhar took charge as CEO of the bank in 2009.“The audit committee believes that the enquiry be done fully rather than being carried out in instalments,” a person aware of the decision told ET.The board of ICICI Bank ordered an independent enquiry after complaints that Kochhar violated the bank’s code of conduct and rules on conflict of interest and was part of quid pro quo dealings with certain bank borrowers. The audit committee received letters from two persons â€" a shareholder and an employee. The whistleblower alleged that Kochhar was on the bank’s credit committee that sanctioned a loan of Rs 3,250 crore to the Videocon Group in 2012.
1754. By Team ET WealthRohit Verma is more surprised than worried when he looks at his mutual fund statement. “The markets have gone up by almost 20% in the past one year but my mutual funds are showing losses,” says the Delhi-based bank executive. Verma had started two SIPs of Rs 10,000 each in a large-cap and a mid-cap fund in July 2017. While the large-cap fund has earned marginal returns, the mid-cap scheme has lost money, forcing Verma to rethink his decision to invest.A lot of small investors who started SIPs about 12-18 months ago are in the same boat. While their funds did very well initially, the performance has not been very encouraging in the past six months. In many cases, especially mid-cap and small-cap funds, the SIP returns are in the red. Large-cap funds have managed to stay above water, but only marginally. Most of the top performers in the category are passively managed index funds.8 of top 10 large-cap funds are index funds Index funds have risen smartly due to the polarised rise in the benchmark indices
1755. Data as on 30 Aug 2018 Source: Value ResearchThe actively managed large-cap funds have underperformed the benchmark indices by a wide margin. The benchmark Nifty 50 TRI index has clocked around 19% returns over the past one year. Out of the 30-odd actively managed large-cap schemes, only twoâ€"Axis Bluechip and Edelweiss Large Capâ€"have managed to beat the index during this period.MISTAKE # 1Shift from diversified funds to index fundsThe relative underperformance of actively managed funds is due to the high degree of polarisation in stocks forming the largecap universe. In the past few months, only a handful of stocks led by Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, TCS and ITC have delivered outsized return. But since actively managed large-cap funds have more diversified portfolios and invest in stocks outside the index as well, the rise in these index heavyweights has pushed up index funds. “When only a small number of stocks skew the index return, most active funds will struggle to outperform the index,” explains Vidya Bala, Head of Mutual Fund Research, FundsIndia.
1756. In Pic: Sanjiv Singhal Founder and COO, Scripbox “The Indian market is still not at a stage where index funds will consistently beat actively managed equity funds.”The divergence in the performance has made many investors like Verma question their decision to go for actively managed funds. If low-cost index funds are outperforming, shouldn’t they shift out of actively managed funds and avoid paying the higher fund management charges? No, say experts. “The Indian market is still not at a stage where index funds will consistently beat active funds. A well-constructed portfolio of funds using the new clearly defined mutual fund categories can continue to outperform the indices for the next few years at least,” says Sanjiv Singhal, Founder and COO of Scripbox. But in the long term, actively managed funds have outperformed market Experts say while large-cap funds may find it difficult to beat the index, mid- and small-cap funds are likely to outperform
1757. Figures are % annualised returns; Data as on 30 Aug 2018 Source: Value ResearchMISTAKE # 2Stopping SIPs because funds are downMid- and small-cap stocks have taken a severe beating in the past few months, resulting in losses for funds that had lined their portfolios with stocks from these segments. Jittery investors, who started SIPs in these funds within the last year and are now staring at losses, may want to discontinue their investments. Experts say this would be unwise. This is precisely the time when SIP investors will be able to make the most of the volatility by effectively fetching more units at lower prices for the same amount. “You need to give a few years to any fund. If you are investing for 10 years and are in the right funds, then invest as much as possible,” says Vipin Khandelwal, Founder of Unovest. When the mid-cap segment regains strength, investors who persisted with their SIPs will stand to benefit. Over a period of time, SIPs will average out your cost and generate inflation beating returns. This is the simple key to building wealth. For mutual fund investors, regular investing is a better strategy than timing the market. An investor who continues his SIPs irrespective of market movements is likely to make more money than one who lets market sentiments affect his decisions. For instance, if a mutual fund investor had stopped his SIPs or withdrawn his investments after this year’s Budget announced the LTCG tax on equities, he would not have gained from the rise in the market in the past six months.MISTAKE # 3Shifting from debt funds to fixed depositsInterest rates are rising again after a gap of four years. The yield of the benchmark 10-year government bond is close to 8%, which has depressed the returns of debt funds, especially longterm bond funds. Other categories of debt funds have delivered barely 3-4% in the past year (see graphic). On the other hand, banks have raised their deposit rates. Many are offering 7-7.5% interest for 1-3 year deposits. Senior citizens above 60 will get 0.25-0.5% more. Given the high rates offered, investors might find bank fixed deposits and recurring deposits more attractive. They may be tempted to dump their bond funds in favour of bank deposits.

While FDs give assured returns, they are not as tax efficient.” Experts are not sure. “Shifting from debt funds to fixed deposits will not be beneficial for investors. While bank deposits give assured returns, they are not tax efficient,” says Rohit Shah, Founder & CEO, Getting You Rich. The entire interest earned from bank deposits is included in the individual’s income for the year and taxed at the applicable slab rate. The post-tax return will be much lower for those in the higher tax brackets. Instead, investors should park some money in short-term or low duration debt funds and fixed maturity plans now. Bond funds are far more tax-efficient. If held for more than three years, the gains are treated as long-term capital gains and taxed at 20% along with indexation benefit. However, the situation may be different for senior citizens. This year’s Budget has given senior citizens an exemption of up to Rs 50,000 for interest income. For this segment of investors, it makes sense to shift some money out of debt funds to fixed deposits and earn tax-free income.Debt funds gave poor returnsLong-term debt funds have been badly hit by the rise in interest rates

Data analysed for the past 11 years from May 2007-May 2018We found that when the 10-year bond yield is between 7.5% and 8% (as it is now), the one year forward return from gilt funds has been 7.32%. In other words, the worst may be over for the bond market.MISTAKE # 4Starting equity SIPs for short-term goalsGiven the healthy return from some mutual funds over the past 2-3 years, some may be tempted to start fresh SIPs in equity funds. Some may even consider initiating a SIP in mid-cap funds to gain from the volatility. This is fine so long as you are not investing in these funds for short-term goals or hunting for quick gains. Given that valuations in select pockets from both segments are still stretched relative to historical levels, returns are likely to be muted in the near term, feel analysts. Investors coming in with a short-term horizon (less than three years) now may be left with a sour taste in the mouth. Experts says investors should commit to at least a five-year horizon to benefit from the SIP. “At a fundamental level, the fund must align with your risk profile and time horizon. If you need the money in three years, you shouldn’t be in equity funds,” warns Khandelwal.MISTAKE # 5Investing in mutual funds for dividendSome mutual fund houses have pushed their equity-oriented funds as a source of regular dividend income for investors. Gullible investors did not realise that dividend from a mutual fund is only their own money coming back. “Dividend is the opium of the investors. For too long, it has been used as a bait to lure in investors,” says Khandelwal.
1760. A Myanmar judge on Monday found two Reuters journalists guilty of breaching a law on state secrets and sentenced them to seven years in prison, in a landmark case seen as a test of progress towards democracy in the Southeast Asian country. Yangon northern district judge Ye Lwin said Wa Lone, 32, and Kyaw Soe Oo, 28, breached the colonial-era Official Secrets Act when they collected and obtained confidential documents. "The defendants ... have breached Official Secrets Act section 3.1.c, and are sentenced to seven years. The time already served by the defendants from Dec. 12 will be taken into consideration," the judge said. Press freedom advocates, the United Nations, the European Union and countries including the United States, Canada and Australia had called for the Reuters journalists' acquittal. "Today is a sad day for Myanmar, Reuters journalists Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo, and the press everywhere," Reuters editor in chief Stephen J Adler said in a statement. "We will not wait while Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo suffer this injustice and will evaluate how to proceed in the coming days, including whether to seek relief in an international forum." The reporters had told the court two police officials handed them papers at a north Yangon restaurant moments before other officers arrested them. One police witness testified the restaurant meeting was a set-up to entrap the journalists to block or punish them for their reporting of a mass killing of Rohingya Muslims. "I have no fear," Wa Lone said after the verdict. "I have not done anything wrong ... I believe in justice, democracy and freedom." The verdict means Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo - who both have young daughters and have not seen their families outside of prison visits and court hearings for nearly nine months - remain behind bars. Kyaw Soe Oo has a three-year-old daughter and Wa Lone's wife, Pan Ei Mon, gave birth to their first child last month. Myanmar government spokesman Zaw Htay has mostly declined to comment throughout the proceedings, saying Myanmar's courts were independent and the case would be conducted according to the law. The verdict had been postponed for a week because Judge Ye Lwin was sick. It comes amid mounting pressure on the government of Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi over a security crackdown sparked by attacks by insurgents from the Rohingya Muslim minority on the security forces in August 2017. More than 700,000 stateless Rohingya Muslims fled across western Myanmar's border with Bangladesh, according to U.N. agencies. Dozens of reporters from domestic and international media organizations and diplomats were at the court for the verdict. 'HAMMER BLOW' U.S. ambassador Scot Marciel said he was sad for the two reporters and also for Myanmar. "It's deeply troubling for everybody who has struggled so hard here for media freedom. I think one has to ask will this process increase or decrease the confidence the people of Myanmar have in their justice system," Marciel told reporters. "We are disappointed by today's court decision," the U.N. Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Myanmar, Knut Ostby, said in a statement. "The United Nations has consistently called for the release of the Reuters journalists and urged the authorities to respect their right to pursue freedom of expression and information." British ambassador Dan Chugg, speaking on behalf of his government and EU members, said he was "extremely disappointed" by the verdict in a case that had "passed a long shadow" over freedom of expression and the rule of law. "This has dealt a hammer blow for the rule of law," Chugg said. The Reuters reporters were arrested on Dec. 12 while investigating the killing of 10 Rohingya men and boys and other abuses involving soldiers and police in Inn Din, a village in Rakhine State. Myanmar has denied allegations of atrocities made by refugees against its security forces, saying it conducted a legitimate counterinsurgency operation against Muslim militants. But the military acknowledged the killing of the 10 Rohingya men and boys at Inn Din after arresting the Reuters reporters. A U.N mandated fact-finding mission said last week Myanmar's military carried out mass killings and gang rapes of Muslim Rohingya with "genocidal intent" and called for top generals to be prosecuted. Myanmar rejected the findings. The International Criminal Court is considering whether it has jurisdiction over events in Rakhine, while the United States, the European Union and Canada have sanctioned Myanmar military and police officers over the crackdown.

GAIL India, the country's largest gas transportation and marketing company, plans to set up battery charging stations for electric vehicles as well as build solar plants as it looks to be "future ready" for emerging businesses, a senior company official said.It also wants to explore the business opportunity in waste-water treatment plants, water distribution, large water pipeline laying as an early mover."We have the country's biggest network of pipelines? and gas marketing infrastructure. We want to leverage for emerging business opportunities," he said. "We want to be future ready."It is looking at possibilities of setting up battery charging stations for e-vehicles at CNG dispensing stations in a bid to diversify its portfolio beyond gas and petrochemicals."It is all at drawing board stage. A lot will depend on norms. For example, we don't know if rules permit a battery charging facility at a petrol pump or a CNG station. We don't know at what price we can sell that battery charge," he said. ?GAIL wants to insert six new sections in the main objects clause of the memorandum of association of the company to foray into new business.According to a shareholder notice, it wants to invest in "start-ups in core business areas (of natural gas, petrochemicals, and energy) and non-core areas (like health, social and environment, safety, and security) either directly or indirectly.""The investment can be made through special purpose vehicle (SPV), alternative investment fund (AIF), fund of funds (FoF) and trust," it said. The official said there is a necessity to adopt new and different pathways to provide clean, cost-effective and efficient mobility services that are safe, reduce dependence on oil imports and achieve more efficient land-use in cities with the least environmental footprints and impacts on human health. With the objective in mind, the firm wants to set up "battery charging stations and provide charging services" to electric vehicles. With the government planning to make a major shift to electric vehicles by 2030, GAIL feels that charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in India has not been fully developed yet.GAIL with its "pan-India presence through the natural gas network is deep-pocketed and has the capability of setting up charging infrastructure at a faster pace," he said. The 34th annual general meeting of the company is scheduled for September 11.With depletion of groundwater and monsoons becoming less predictable and unreliable, availability and utilisation of water are becoming key issues in modern India. Many cities are sourcing the fresh water through long-distance transport ranging from 50-200 km. ?Stating that with growing population and industrialisation, the effluent water discharged has increased significantly, GAIL in the notice said the treatment of the effluent water and maintaining of the freshwater table is a big challenge and a business opportunity. It is also looking to "harness solar power potential available at its various sites and installations which can be connected to grid for sale or for own use at other installations through wheeling of power."In line with its strategy to promote the use of green fuel, it is contemplating to promote gas appliances in households to increase gas usage and minimise electric usage in housing equipment and appliances such as gas boiler, gas-based air conditioner and bathroom heater.Operating nearly 14,000-km of natural gas and LPG pipeline and executing more than 4,500 km of new lines, GAIL feels it can provide services such as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), engineering, procurement, construction management (EPCM) and project management consultancy (PMC) in the field of hydrocarbon pipelines."GAIL also has adequate experienced manpower and infrastructure for providing these services," the notice said.It also wants to "carry on the business of manufacture, import, distribution, and marketing of appliances relating to gas marketing and distribution, such as gas meter and CNG kits".
1763. G CHOKKALINGAMMD, Equinomics Research & AdvisoryI am holding Aurobindo Pharma at Rs 612, Godrej Agrovet at Rs 613 and Capital First at Rs 652 and Bharat Dynamics at Rs 410. What could be the prospect of these shares after two years? â€"RAJIV RANJANYou may hold Aurobindo and Bharat Dynamics â€" while rupee depreciation could augur well for Aurobindo, attractive valuations after severe corrections in the stocks prices in recent times could give opportunity in the next two years to make money in these two stocks. However, even after significant fall in stock prices, Godrej Agrovet trades at exorbitant valuation of over 44 PE on FY18 earnings without any solid growth in profits. So sell this stock, if there is any tactical upswing in stock price. Sell Capital First at a price of around Rs 680 as after its merger with IDFC Bank, it might lose charm of sleek equity and also its valuation multiple has gone up significantly after recent run-up in the stock price.I bought 80 shares of Rain Industries at Rs 466 for 1-2 yrs. Please advise whether I should hold or sell.â€"ABHIJIT PARULEKARNever buy such cyclical stocks after they run up several folds in a short span of time. Stock seems to be cheaply valued at current earnings but it may remain so as over Rs 6,000 crore of intangible asset is in the form of ‘Goodwill’ and debt is atover Rs 7,000 crore. Exit if it moves beyond Rs 230.I am holding 200 shares of Idea at an average price of Rs 188 and100 share of Patel Engineering at Rs 91. Please advise. â€"TULSI BHATIAPain in the short to medium terms will continue for Idea due to peaking out of penetration of mobile phones in the country, competition from social media for voice calls and aggressive competitive pressures from Jio. However, in about two years, prospects are likely to improve. Hence, you may hold it for 2-3 years to reduce your losses. Sell Patel Engineering, if the stock touches close to Rs 55 as its balance sheet remains under pressure.I hold 75 units of Tata Motors at Rs 267, 50 units of Motherson Sumi at Rs 325, 100 units of Waterbase at Rs 293. Please suggest what to do. â€"B CHARANTHEJIn the short- to medium term, Tata Motors is unlikely to rise significantly due to huge investment needed for and also uncertainty arising from the success of shifting from diesel to petrol cars in UK. Hold only if you are a long term investor. Hold Motherson Sumi with a target price of around Rs 340, which is about 25 PE on FY20 expected earnings. Sell Waterbase at Rs 230, which is fair on the basis of 23 PE on current year’s expected earnings. Please send your queries on Stocks to et.stocks@timesgroup.com; Mutual Funds to et.mfs@timesgroup.com Tax to et.tax@timesgroup.com Insurance to et.insurance@timesgroup.com Realty to et.realty@timesgroup.com

1765. Bengaluru: Indian IT companies are tweaking incentives as mining existing clients become key to boosting revenue growth. While some, like Mphasis, are promising Teslas to their top sales staff, others, such as Infosys and Accenture, are looking at increasing incentives to encourage their delivery teams make sales as well.IT companies are facing the prospect of slowing growth as clients ask for more automation and demand massive price cuts in their traditional outsourcing contracts, while staving off competition.Indian firms still earn more than two thirds of their revenue from traditional outsourcing contracts that are either stagnant or are contracting. As a result, companies are getting creative in how they look at boosting growth.“We have a focused programme with strategic customers, where you (an Mphasis executive account lead) are working to increase your share of wallet with them,” Mphasis CEO Nitin Rakesh told ET in a recent interview. “Whoever grows the account fastest will get to spend two days with someone from the executive team and then they are given a Tesla. It is based on whoever grows fastest.”While fancy cars have long been a perk for top sales people, incentives to delivery staff to boost growth are aimed at retaining customers and looking at opportunities in newer business areas such as digital and cloud. Infosys has launched an incentive scheme tied to its internal innovation programme to help increase sales, according to CEO Salil Parekh.“We are rolling out an incentive programme for our delivery teams,” Parekh told ET in a recent interview. “This is going to be quite broad-based, we think a large number of our delivery teams can benefit from it. There will be monetary incentives as well, which will be quite substantial. It is along the lines of a sales commission â€" how sales people are paid a commission, we also want delivery people to think like that.”Accenture too has embedded innovation leads in projects to drive revenue growth from the delivery end. “We had already included innovation as a metric on which it rewards its senior executives and most contracts come with innovation clauses. We have also embedded innovation leads in our projects to drive that aspect of the business,” Mohan Sekhar, senior MD, Accenture Technology Services, told ET in July.
