- The company as of Tuesday was yet to receive offers for more oil from Venezuela and it was still trying to understand the impact of the sanctions on shipping and payment mechanisms, said the person, who asked not to be identified discussing internal issues. Overall, itâs too early to determine how much more Venezuelan oil may come to India, the person said.Nayara bought about 70,000 barrels a day of Venezuelaâs oil in 2018, according to tanker tracking data compiled by Bloomberg. The company didnât respond to requests for comment.Reliance IndustriesAt 1.36 million barrels a day of capacity, Reliance Industries is the biggest private refiner in India. Itâs also the countryâs top buyer of Venezuelan crude, at about 270,000 barrels a day, or roughly 80 percent of the total, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.âBoth Reliance and Nayara have a big appetite for Venezuelan crudes given their heavy crude slate.â said Senthil Kumar, an analyst at energy consultant FGE. âThey cut imports recently due to declining production in Venezuela and Mexico. This is good opportunity to take some volumes that are redirected from U.S., but upside is limited.âThe company didnât respond to requests for comment.Indian OilShifting to the state-owned refiners, Indian Oil Corp. is the nationâs biggest at 1.6 million barrels a day of capacity. But that doesnât mean it and others will be able to make room for more Venezuelan oil, according to a person familiar with the companyâs position. Thatâs because the oil will need to be blended with lighter crude to run in most units owned by government refiners, said the person, who asked not to be identified, citing company policy. The sanctions could also divert some of Indian Oilâs traditional supplies into the U.S. to fill the shortfall from Venezuela, leaving the company in a position to pay higher costs to compete for feedstock, said the person. An Indian Oil spokesman wasnât immediately able comment.Bharat Petroleum Corp."Greater availability of Venezuelan oil doesnât necessarily mean supply reliability,â said R. Ramachandran, refineries director at the state run company known as BPCL. âThere are other issues such quality of the crude and higher freight. All these put together, Venezuelan oil isnât very attractive to India, especially the state refiners.âThere is only a limited amount crude of Venezuelaâs quality that Indian refinery can process, he said. âThat way, the Indian state refiners do not benefit much from greater availability of Venezuelan oil freed by the U.S.âAnd the government?Prime Minister Narendra Modi generally avoids taking contentious stands on active geopolitical developments, particularly when it comes to the internal politics of trading partners. Venezuela is its fourth-biggest crude supplier, behind Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Iran.Asked for a comment after the U.S. imposed sanctions, the foreign ministry referred to a statement Friday from spokesman Raveesh Kumar: "It is for the people of Venezuela to find a political solution to resolve their differences.
- Vijayakumar, CEO, and Prateek Aggarwal, CFO, HCL Tech, tell ET Now.Edited excerpts: There was strong growth in Q3 as part of the organic piece. How did the ramp-up of large deals like Nokia helped and what was the contribution from H&D acquisition? C Vijayakumar: It has been an outstanding quarter for us. We had 5.6% constant currency growth quarter on quarter and 13% on a year on year basis. What is very impressive is that the growth is across all geographies. US, Europe and rest of the world, excluding India, delivered a double digit growth. US did 13%. Europe did 14%. Rest of the world excluding India did 12%. Our Mode 2 services demonstrated significant acceleration, 13.3% quarter on quarter growth. All the verticals -- telecom, technology, services, retail CPG, life-sciences and healthcare -- delivered 20% plus year on year growth. Due to a couple of client specific issues, we have a muted growth in financial services. Manufacturing also delivered a good quarter on quarter growth. So, it is an across-the-board momentum, and this is reflecting some of the bookings that we did in the past quarters. A lot of deals are coming into execution and are specific to client specific numbers which I would not like to comment on. So one client could be in one geography but the growth is much more broad-based. In terms of acquisitions, on a constant currency basis, of the 120 million that we added, 90 million has come from organic and the remaining would be either due to consolidation of H&D which is probably 20-22 million and a little bit of full quarter impact. How much is digital contributing as a vertical? Prateek Aggarwal: We do not call out a separate digital number per se but for more than two years now, we have been focussing on Mode 1, 2 and 3. Digital is actually included in all three to some degree or other. The second -- Mode 2 -- is 100% digital but then there is automation and hybrid cloud and private cloud sitting in the Mode 1 as well. Also in Mode 3, there are some products which have SaaS versions. If I was to just look at the Mode 2 itself, it has grown 13% plus quarter on quarter, that is the most heartening growth that we can take as a surrogate for the digital question that you are asking me. Your service areas -- IMS and engineering and R&D -- both fired up this time. Do you expect to be similarly strong in Q4? Vertical wise, do you expect BFS softness to extend into Q4 as well, owing to specific client issues despite good demand. C Vijayakumar: Our financial services is doing well across the board in all the geographies and we had called out a couple of client-specific issues which concern large clients where there is some softness. That continued into this quarter as well. Outside that, financial services is doing well across the board. What progress are we seeing on your Mode 1, 2, 3 strategy? Prateek Aggarwal: We are very focussed on maintaining a good balance between growth and margins. Over last 8 to 10 quarters, we have been in the 19.5-20.5 range, which continues to be our guidance for the year. More important are some of the other metrics like return on equity (ROE) of 25% in CY18 and return on invested capital (ROI) of almost 29%, These are very healthy returns to the shareholders. The third number is cash EPS, which is nothing but earning per share adding back the non-cash items and reducing the minimum alternate tax (MAT) that we pay which is more than the tax cost. On that metric, we are at Rs 82 per share, much higher than the gap EPS that you see which is around Rs 76. Rs 82 is significantly higher and that is where we continue to focus on generating a good cash EPS for our shareholders. Hope is pinned on integration of IBM products to fuel growth from second quarter of FY20. How do you see it contributing in the year and over what period will it be amortised? C Vijayakumar: We announced the acquisition on 7th of December and it is still not closed. We said it is going to close in the middle of the year. So, June-July is when we should expect it to close. After we close, the revenues will start flowing in. The first year revenue is $625 million. In second year, it will be $650 million. We are pretty much on track but to quantify the exact impact in FY20, it really depends on when it will formally close. I do not want to take a guess on that. It is approximately in the middle of the year.Prateek Aggarwal: We are working on the amortisation. I do not have a very definitive answer for you right now, but it is like any other Mode 3 business that we currently run. It would be in that ballpark of let us say 23% to 25% EBIT, hopefully better than that. For nine months, you are at the lower end of your guided margin band. Do you see improvement towards top end or rising cost of doing business in overseas markets? Will currency tailwinds keep it under check? Prateek Aggarwal: We are part of the industry. We are going through the same movements that you talked about. We will keep making efforts to keep our margins in 19.5-20% range. If anything changes, we will reflect it in our guidance going forward.

- by Dhwani Pandya, Serene Cheong and Debjit ChakrabortyAfter the U.S. slapped sanctions on Venezuelaâs state-owned PDVSA, which essentially add up to an oil ban, the market has focused on how the remaining buyers of the South American countryâs heavy, low-quality crude will react.India is the third-biggest buyer of Venezuelan oil, after the U.S. and China, averaging about 340,000 barrels a day last year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The nationâs private refiners -- Reliance Industries Ltd. and Nayara Energy Ltd. (formerly Essar Oil Ltd.) -- are the primary buyers. Thatâs because their advanced refining systems can process the thick Venezuelan grade into high-value fuels such as low-sulfur gasoline and jet fuel. In contrast, state-owned refiners generally wonât benefit from more Venezuelan crude as their facilities canât handle the low quality.Nayara EnergyThe U.S. sanctions may provide Nayara Energy with an opportunity to get extra Venezuelan crude as more of it becomes available in the market, which will help make up for supply it lost as the South American nationâs exports slumped, according to a person familiar with the companyâs thinking.Indiaâs purchases from Venezuela fell about 11 percent last year, in line with an overall slump in exports, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.67750471

- BENGALURU: Soft skills, especially creativity, is becoming vital in todayâs workplace. And so are factors like pay transparency, flexibility to work where & when employees want, and new ways to tackle workplace harassment. These are the findings of a LinkedIn survey of over 5,000 talent professionals in 35 countries, including more than 400 in India. While globally 92% said soft skills are becoming very important, in India 95% felt so. The rise of automation and artificial intelligence means that hard skills alone are no longer enough to be successful, LinkedIn said.âAnd while the half-life of many hard skills is shrinking, soft skills stay relevant: A particular programming language may go out of fashion, but creativity, adaptability, and collaboration skills will always be valuable,â it said.Despite its growing value, many companies are seen to be still struggling to accurately assess soft skills. Interestingly in India, 43% respondents felt that AI-powered soft skill assessments are effective, nearly double the global average of 27%.While pay has always been a touchy topic for employers to be open about (they fear it will cause wage disputes and limit their ability to negotiate), the study showed that employees feel happier when pay scales are standardised and transparent. âLeaving people in the dark can make candidates uneasy and employees distrustful,â the study said, noting that most people incorrectly believe theyâre being underpaid relative to their market position. With the #MeToo movement gaining momentum in social media and at corporate offices, more than 75% of those surveyed globally said they saw management change strategy to tackle workplace harassment. In India, more than 92% of those interviewed said their company has implemented some harassment prevention measure.
